The Dragon’s Proxy War: The Touska Incident and the Middle Eastern Inferno

The seizure of the Iranian container ship Touska by U.S. armed forces in the Gulf of Oman is far more than a mere maritime policing operation. It serves as yet another piece of evidence showing how China, despite formally flaunting a foreign policy of "non-interference," systematically operates through proxy wars to wear down Western dominance.

The Iranian Proxy and "Belligerent Mercantilism"

Despite the denials issued by spokesperson Guo Jiakun, the facts paint a different picture. The Touska, linked to the sanctioned IRISL, is the symbol of an umbilical cord supplying Tehran with dual-use technologies and raw materials for medium-range missiles. Beijing is utilizing Iran as its armed wing in the Middle East—much like its indirect role in Ukraine as Putin’s silent partner—transforming the region into a geopolitical "hotbed of infection."

The objective is not stability, but the depletion of United States resources and attention. Indeed, according to the Chinese proverb: "The war is won by the one who does not fight it."

Toward a Global Power Realignment

The Middle East is currently the theater of a friction that could escalate into a global and lethal conflict between great powers. The phone calls between Xi Jinping and Mohammed bin Salman demonstrate how China is attempting to establish itself as the guarantor of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, seeking to strip Saudi Arabia and regional allies of the American security umbrella.

However, this war is also accelerating the potential birth of new alliances in the area. The Middle East that will emerge from this crisis will no longer be the same: we may witness a radical realignment where the strategic autonomy of local players clashes with Beijing’s attempt to impose a Sino-centric New World Order rooted in anti-American and, more broadly, anti-Western sentiment.
