The eastern route of the China-Russia gas pipeline has been fully operational. It is the largest single-pipe gas pipeline in China, with a capacity of transporting up to 38 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The eastern route of the China-Russia gas pipeline runs from Heilongjiang Province to Shanghai, through 9 provinces, autonomous regions and centrally-administered cities. The total length of the line is 5,111 kilometers, and it was built 10 years ago.
With a capacity of 38 billion cubic meters per year, it will meet the gas needs of 13 million urban households in three provinces in northeastern China, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Yangtze River Delta region.
China Petroleum and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation spokesperson Li Bo: “The eastern route of the China-Russia pipeline is connected with the northeast China pipeline network and the west-east pipeline, which effectively increases China’s natural gas supply capacity and provides opportunities for smoother transition of peak periods in eastern China.”
In recent years, thanks to the construction of the western section of the second line of the Sichuan-East pipeline, the Hulin-Changchun pipeline and other pipelines, the first section of the fourth line of the West-East pipeline has been successfully put into operation.
The construction of a new pipeline network has accelerated in China.
Deputy General Manager of the China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation Liu Haichun: “This year, 4,000 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines have been built. Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the total length of pipelines started and completed has exceeded a record 16,000 kilometers.”
Now the length of China's oil and gas pipeline network exceeds 100,000 kilometers, and the country's gas transportation capacity has increased from 223 billion cubic meters in 2020 to 394 billion cubic meters this year.
